Program Description

Shoreline PSH provides safe and dignified 24/7 Permanent Supportive Housing for 100 people.  Our mission is to provide hospitable and low barrier housing with a harm reduction model. This is to be done in the spirit of the ministry of presence, which fosters attention to the individual and respect for each person's unique situation.  Shoreline PSH is for a population of any age who are vulnerable to the weather, street predators, and illness. These people may be high needs, have serious physical disabilities, chronic and acute mental illness, active chemical dependency and trauma.  Janitors are responsible for maintaining the overall cleanliness of the facility assisting with light maintenance issues, and fostering a team environment among shelter staff and volunteers. Position Description

Responsible for cleaning building common areas and units during turnover. Seek to provide tenants with a safe, positive and sanitary living environment.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Perform routine scheduled cleaning duties: sweep, mop, and wash walls. Clean bathrooms, food serving area and other common areas to building standards. Stock and assist with communicating inventory.
  • Maintain clean exterior of building.
  • Assist building maintenance staff and maintenance vendors as needed. Remove garbage and recycling from building following all safe trash removal protocol. Wash trash cans.
  • Enforce building and program rules.  Perform other duties as assigned

General Responsibilities 

  • Observe/follow guidelines on confidentiality rights of residents and respect their privacy.
  • Alert management staff to issues/concerns regarding building or residents that are observed in the course of performing duties.
  • Maintain cooperative relationship with businesses in the surrounding neighborhood.
  • Contribute to the mission of Catholic Community Services.
  • Contribute to and support a positive, team-oriented work environment.

Job Conditions

This position requires the employee to work in an environment where there may be exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and potentially infectious material and chemicals, dust, noise and odors. Working conditions include frequent interruptions, moving between the four buildings, sharing workspace with colleagues, working alone, working long hours during peak periods, extensive computer use, and interactions with individuals who are angry and/or dealing with mental health and substance abuse issues.
