Overview

Part-time position starting at $24.60 - $27.36/hr (D.O.E) ~20 hours/week

 

Purpose of position

This position provides house management to the residents as they work toward healing, maintaining sobriety, enhancing life skills and self-sufficiency to find permanent housing. This position requires working independently, as a team member, and as part of the agency ensuring residents are adhering to the program contract of Spirit Journey House and liaison to Catholic Community Services Facilities. This position is a live-in employment opportunity.

 

Position Description
The Spirit Journey House is a recovery transitional house for adult Native American women. Residents are offered cultural services and Native AA Recovery program to support sobriety and self-sufficiency goals. The House Manager is responsible for overall recovery support to residents including liaison to CCSWW Facilities team and referrals for residents to attain permanent housing. This position reports to the Program Manager on designing cultural wrap around services and recommendations for residents breaching contractual agreements.

Responsibilities

  • Employee accomplishes this responsibility by completing the following tasks:
    • Supports residents in Native AA Recovery program to support sobriety and self-sufficiency.
    • Connect individuals to community resources necessary to improve life situation including AA meetings, education, job training, employment, or housing.
    • Support Program Director in coordinating cultural activities.
    • Provide transportation for shopping, recovery meetings, and food bank.
    • Answer and return calls for future resident applications and coordination of interview.
    • Coordinate house meetings as needed.
    • Maintain a safe and nurturing trauma-informed care environment working with Program Director in supporting resident overall goals
    • Monitor residents’ activities during on-duty hours
    • Maintain house rules and monitor curfews.
    • Conduct room checks as needed.
    • Support Manager to enforce policies and procedures, adhering to program and CCS guidelines.
    • Report facilities and resident-program related issues to supervisor by maintaining a log sheet.
    • Assist with house maintenance (inspection, minor repairs, bulb replacement, etc.).
  • Promote the CCS Mission Statement in the community:
    • Participates in community events/fairs as requested by the program director.
    • Connect with other social service agencies to advocate for the program.

  • Treat clients in a culturally sensitive manner, assuring that Catholic Community Services’ commitment to diversity and cultural competency is maintained.

 

Job Conditions

This position requires the employee to work in an environment where there may be exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious material. Other exposures could include cleaning supplies, chemicals involved in pest control, paint and other materials used in building maintenance. Working conditions may include interruptions, working alone, interactions with angry persons, and exposure to computer CRTs.

  • Able to hear telephone rings, phone conversation and face-to-face conversation, door bells and emergency alarms.
  • Able to speak clearly in person and on the telephone.
  • Able to hand write legibly.
  • Vision that enables person to read normal size print and handwritten notes; and distance and peripheral vision than enables person to monitor living spaces and identify concerns that require staff response.
  • Able to sit for sustained periods of time.
  • Able to walk the entire building and ascend and descend stairs quickly to move from one floor to another in order to respond to emergency situations.
  • Mobility/dexterity of hands/arms to enable keying into a unit or other locked area as well as using computers and other office equipment.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, and to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds.
  • Regularly able to perform duties as assigned.
  • Able to make independent decisions and apply sound judgment in performing job duties.

Qualifications

  • AA Degree or equivalent work experience in shelter or group house setting and advocacy for Native American underserviced population of native women
  • Valid WA driver’s license and insurance to drive company vehicle.
  • Knowledge of AA resources, life skill opportunities.
  • Preferred experience working in Native AA recovery for Native American women in a residential environment.
  • Experience working independently, prioritizing work tasks, and follow through.
  • Ability to interact effectively and cooperatively with residents
  • Experience with crisis intervention and ability to always maintain a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written English.
  • Experience using computers including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
